Bought wrong part rant/ WWYD !?

So im sitting here, wondering about why my new gas tank only holds ~~13 gallons.
Now about a month ago my drive shaft wore a hole in my gas tank, thus being said I had to buy a new gas tank.

Now, I had to drive around 70 miles to buy the tank, before when i was talking to the guy at the wrecking yard (scottys jeep & 4x4) in riverside CA, He said he had an 89 short WB, 4x4 tank.

So I get there, looking at the tank, it said 94 4x4, wasnt too worried cause i know it should bolt up, and i believe i had a bigger tank then what my truck needed (the one that had the hole) so this semi smaller one looked about right.

So i get it home, it doesnt bolt up, no big deal quick trip to home depot i create a bracket and get it in there.
Finally get to getting to a gas station and i know before i left home there was only about 2 gallons, when the clicker thing on the pump finally stoped, it was at 11 gallons, my math says around 13 gallons. After some promt research, a 2wd tank of the same gen is 13 gallons

So...What would you do !?!
Call the dude call him out that he lied to me, or what ?!

Buy a new tank and sell the old...thats about all you can do. I have a 13 gallon tank (or something really small) and it works fine for me. lol.

Partially his fault if he told you it was a 17 gallon, but partially your fault for not taking measurements of your old tank and matching it up.

And he actually never told me it was a 17 gallon, he said it was out of a 94 4x4 short bed, but clearly its out of a 94 2wd
But good point

You can get a new 17 gallon gas tank from auto parts warehouse for about 225.00 dollars.

So because of one experience, you suddenly hate wrecking yards? Thats a poor attitude and a very prejudiced look at wrecking yards. Very few wrecking yards will dishonestly sell you a part. Did you even bother talking to them and getting the correct 5 speed? Humans ARE capable of making mistakes ya know

You need me to bring you a tank? Lol. Check on car-part.com and find one in your local area. Best places to buy from are larger operations like T.A.P. as they have the time and money for better inventory systems, and can often show you the part IN the truck before you buy it. Remeber, if you are buying used parts and it doesn't bolt right up, its likely not the correct part. Its uite possible the truck WAS a 4x4, and maybe someone swapped a 2wd tank into the truck. As auto wreckers, we can only inventory based on what we KNOW about the vehicle.
