Best Place to Buy a 3.4 Crate Engine?

Been a while since I have posted on YT. Miss everyone here. I am currently in the Navy now, and stationed down in South Carolina.

I guess there is a really cool Auto shop down here we can use and rent tools for like $3-4 an hour. Welders and all kinds of stuff (no plasma cutter lol)

Anyways, after the previous 4runner was totalled, and the Tacoma had problems, I'm after another wonderful Toyota.

I figured I would get a 2nd gen and swap a 3.4, because I have the money and the time on weekends to do it. Plus that was the dream with my old truck.
Im weary of buying a used 3.4, because I don't want any problems, and I would rather start out fresh with a nice clean rebuilt engine. If something were to occur, I can't be late for anything here and will not have squat time to spend on the weekdays tinkering to get it working..

Questions are (I know I blabbed for a while..):
Where is the best place (experience or rumors work too) to buy a crate 3.4?
I probably want some warranty for the engine, but nothing too outrageous.

Should I be careful and ask if they used all genuine Toyota parts on the rebuild? Think it would matter that much?

Any help is good help. Thanks guys!

Prices to expect? Good and bad?

Oregon Engine Rebuilders builds excellent engines and they offer a LIFETIME warranty on parts.

http://oregonengines.net/

I had them build a 351 v8 ford motor and it was great. I've heard they do a good job on Toys as well. You'd have to call them about a price and I'm sure they'd use factory parts.

Oregon has a decent rep but I would get a definition of their abuse clause. My sister had camber bolt issues on her tiburon with 22k on it. Hyundia said it wouldnt be covered because it had been abused. I said define abuse. Anything from going over a speed bump to a curb. I went off on the guy. I went as far as the general manager and got nothing. Sent a letter to hyundia. No response. Go figure So I would get something in writing in what they consider abuse and base your decision on that.

That is an option on the list, and maybe it would be a little more expensive. I gotta see what I can do. I definately want one that has like under 100k miles, and in good condition.

I like the 2nd gens cuz of their metal all around. and the fact that i owned a really nice one.

anyways, is $2500 a good price?
any other suggestions?

Tru, But im sure you could find one with between 50-100k. Replace the basics and it should be good to go.

i'd say 2300 for a fresh rebuilt one with a lifetime warranty was a great deal. i paid 1100 for mine with 90k on it from MazToy, a mazda/toyota recycler east of portland here in oregon where i live, truck was rear-ended, heard motor run when i bought it. but that only got me a 6 month warranty, so for twice that i coulda had a complete rebuilt one. just food for thought...

I'm just thinking that if you plan to supercharger or otherwise build the motor, it might be worth it to have a fresh motor.

Am I wrong?

I really have no idea.

Red face

When looking into the pricing of a purchase like this one has to think about the freight charges.

Now you can pick up your goodies at the nearest freight terminal of the carrier your engine supplier uses.

You must know someone with a truck .

Good luck:jessica::jessica:
