Balancing Black Wheels??
So if you buy black wheels how are they balanced without the wheel weights sitting on the outside of the wheel?? I mean, you wouldn't get black wheels and put a silver weight on the outside of the wheel would you?
I know a wheel can be balanced just on the inside of the wheel but is this as good of a balance job? Do you just paint the weights? I'm just curious as to how you keep your black look with silver weights. Thanks!! |

have them use tape on weights on the inside of the wheel. works just as well as clip on weights, they just tend to fall off quicker

Coming from someone who works at a wheel/tire shop, balancing with lead pound on weights give much better results then the tape-weight. Tape-weights are great for passenger car tires. If you are try tape-weighting a light truck tire, you will end up using more weight then it is worth.

The shop that mounted my BFG's put the weights on the inside of the rim. Its nice not having to stare at ugly grey weights on the outside rim..

Tape weights then black duct tape over top. I saw a bunch of JGTC cars using this simple fix at the race in Fontana 4 years ago. Works fantastic.

I couldnt stop laughing for some reason when I read the thread title...
anyways....balancing powder sucks..if it gets wet it can clump and also can clog the valve stem if it decides to find its way out... Try Dynabeads from Innovative Balancing if anything....thats what semi truckers use. I use them on my 36" swampers...never required any additional weights or balancing and I can run em at 80 miles per hour..FWIW

Be sure when you get them balanced wether your gettin them static balanced or dynamic ask the tire shop to use exact balancing. The best method of all is road force balancing. That way costs a little more because the tire has to me mounted a dismounted twice to line up the high and low spots of the tire and rim. I work at goodyear and have done that to my ltbs on steelies and i got my down to lesst that 2.5 onces total on each tire.
