Ask for a discount; you may get it!

I went to Kragen Auto supply this morning to pick up 6 quarts of Mobil 1. The list price was $6.99 per quart. At the register the clerk rang me up and pronounced the total. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "don't I get a discount"? He said "sure", and charged me $4.99 per quart, or 29% off list. I thanked him and left.

Moral: always ask for the discount!

Find it kind of funny that it was the OP's one and only post. Someone was bored.

Or maybe a part of a grand scheme?

Speaking of discounts, My local Toyota dealerships does that if you show your business card from a mechanic shop.

I agree that if youre a repeat customer, most places wont mind giving you a deal.
I worked at a wrecking yard doing sales and I had a guy coming in and asking for a discount. Every second word was 'where is my discount?' Needless to say, it agravated me to the point where I sold him his bumper at 15% over list price for being an idiot.
I say ask for the discount politely, once. If the guy is able to, he will give a little at first. After a few return visits and he knows you, he will treat you like an old friend and you wont even have to ask.....

I'm new here and am more of a reader than a talker.

Yeah, my Toyota Parts guys always give me discounts, which is pretty cool of them.

Anyway, I just thought I'd pass on my experience. It doesn't hurt to (nicely) ask.

When I worked retail I used to hate when some Joe off the street asked for a discount.

When I worked at Cingular/ATT I used to be able to give discounts at my discretion. Just so you all know phone accessories are marked up like crazy. A twenty dollar charger would really cost the company 2.50. If you buy enough or you ask nicely and be patient you'll be able to get large discounts!

I used to work at a Toyota dealership, and I still do a lot of the work on my truck out there.

The oil filter for my runner comes out to about $5.36 or something like that. Thats in Canadian dollars though...

Air filter i think is around 24...I paid full price once when I was in Fort Mcmurray and paid 38 or 42 or something ridiculous like that
