So I have an 88 Toyota truck with a 22r about 200k miles. Drives runs fine, but just recently I woke up one morning and it took a really long time to start. Usually I pump the gas pedal a few times and it will fire up. Now it takes about 10 mins to start. Once started and driving around it will turn off and start but up fine it's just if I let it sit over night or for long periods of time. I replaced the fuel pump but that didn't help much. Anything advice helps! Thank you

You have two fuel filters. One in the tank and one beside the tank. The one beside the tank is just under the bed. I find it easiest to just tilt the bed from the passenger side and change them on a 22r and do both at the same time.

That would cause it to not start?

It is a possibilty. I have seen a shell get coated over the intank filter and not let fuel flow easily and if the external filter is clogged, that could be a possiblilty.

How is your Timing? When was the last complete tune up? Can you manually operate the throttle and see fuel squirting into the carb? Could be several things to check.

So the fuel filter didn't help. You think it could be a fuel regulator problem? Timing is good i did a full tune up pretty recently. And this problem just kinda happened overnight. What about a battery issue?

I suggest next time it does it, after cranking it for a while (not to the point that it starts) pull a plug and see if it is wet with fuel so you can help rule out fuel delivery. It may be that it is weak spark. The other thing you can try is before attempting to start pull the plugs and spray a little starter fluid in there. If it fires right up and stays running then you have also helped rule out fuel delivery, thus you are back at a weak spark or improper firing timing, but if it had been running fine for an extended period of time prior to this happening and the distributor has not been turned then I would be less inclined to say that it has to with the distributor cam timing. Check for plug fouling. Could be a weak coil.

I can't figure it out. It seems if i pump the gas for a while it's easier usually it's only 2-3 pumps but if I do it for awhile it starts easier. What could this mean? Does the 22r have a fuel pressure regulator? Could that be an issue? New fuel pump new fuel filter, weak battery maybe?
