22R Alternator Adjustment Bolt Size?
Does anyone have a factory service/shop manual that would list the proper size, thread, pitch and length of the "adjustment" bolt for the 22R (carb) engine?
I've got an 81 4x4 with an 88 carbed 22R in it, and I needed to replace the alternator, but the replacement I purchased at the local NAPA has a larger tapped hole for the adjustment/tensioning bolt. It looks to me like manufacturer/remanufacturer error...
I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any differences...all the Toyota 22R motors I've worked on seemed pretty common and basic as far as alternators and belt driven accessories go.
Thanks,
Juanathon

Thanks for the information.
I think the re-manufacturer's QC people missed the thread check on this one.
The factory alternator and bolt fit each other fine, but the on the replacement I can wiggle the bolt right past the threads without even spinning it.
The teenager at the counter keeps asking me if cross threaded it.
I've been working industrial and commercial construction for almost 20 years.
I know how to thread a bolt, and this one I threaded by hand with two fingers, but when I put a wrench on it to snug it, it would never tighten.
After removing the alternator, it's obvious that the threads are off.
They ordered another one to check it's threads. My factory core and the bolt match...don't know if this re-manufactured unit isn't exactly swelling me with confidence...
Thanks for your reply...

I have seen this once in a while someone loses or strips the ome bolt or threaded hole in the alternator and instead of getting the correct one.
Drills and taps to like 5/16'' instead of using some form of thread replacement of the correct size and of course since the mounting is not part of the rebuild it is never noticed. I am curious as to how the next one is
