20R shortblock plus 22RTE head?

I have no idea if this will work, but it looks like my 22RTE crank/block is shot. and there's a local guy with a 20R in good shape for cheap. would it be possible to use the 20R shortblock and my existing heads, and tranny?

I'm used to subarus, which are like legos. mixing and matching is not only common...but recommended....

Won't work. Toyota went to a long block for the 22R/RE/RTE in 84.

Any block after 84 should work. However, if you don't use a 22RTE block, you'll have to worry about your oil return lines.

dangit, I figured as much.

I'm going to use an oil cooler adapter for the filter for oil lines for the turbo...
