2002 4Runner Question

I just bought my wife a 02' runner and she actually is the one with the question. As she is driving if she puts her hand on the shifter it moves back and forth very slightly. Its almost like it moves in conjunction with the suspension. Is this a normal thing?

I believe all Toyota trucks are like that. My Tacoma and 4Runner do that.

It will also make a "click" "click" sound if the road at a slow intersection is just the right shape and your being easy on the throttle. I hardly notice anymore. Use to bug the heck out of me.

big sur,

depends on how much rocking, but yes, a little shifter movement is normal. i bought my first 99 and it was rowing like a crew team. i turned it back after much b.s. from the dealership.

there is a pretty substantial bushing down there. check to see if its cracked.

It's probably because the trans and t-case are mounted to a bushing on the x-member, so theres gonna be some play since its not solid mounted.
