1st Gen Taco Buying advice/opinion
So I've been looking for either a 3rd gen 4runner or a 1st gen Taco for my first car and I found one near me. It's a 1st gen 97 Taco single cab 5 speed manual with the 3.4 v6 option it's in great shape for 5,000 bucks. The guy has owned it since 97 when he bought it off the lot. plenty of sweet mods to it (2.5 OME lift, 33 B/F Goodrich's w/ 75% tread, TJM Bull Bar, warn winch, rear swing out tire carier) in other words it's pretty tricked out all ready. The major problem is that it has 290,XXX miles. what I'm really asking is it a good idea to go for it and if I do what do y'all think would be a fair price ?

Well only you know what it is worth to you .
This must have been used in some sort of high mileage daily commute??
Must be time for like the third timing belt so factor that into your offer.
What condition are the brakes and suspension in??
Don`t be distracted by the goodies look at the truck like it is bare bones stock.
Has this truck lived down south all it`s life being lucky enough to never see large amounts of winter chemicals??
Was this a Mall crawler or hammered off road.
No matter buying any vehicle I always end up with more work then I figured on

I agree with Wyo. don't get distracted by the goodies. ....but on the other hand, it sounds as though the owner spent good money on mostly quality components. (TJM, Warn, BFG) Which is somewhat of an indicator that they spent the money on maintenance also. Get some records of timing belts, oil changes, etc.

good points for sure.^ The price seems pretty good too! If it's in good shape I'd go for it. Run the vin at the dealer and they can tell you if there where any recalls, there were a handful from those years that had to have new head gaskets put in them, in fact since this guy is the original owner maybe ask him if he has any knowledge of it too.

From what he's said it's been mostly used for mild off roading and it's spent most of it's life in down south as for the brakes, suspension, head gaskets and the timing belt I'll ask him about them. I'll be uploading the few pics I have of it soon.
