There are lots of options, it all depends how much you want to spend.
You could go with a CT20, but they are expensive, hard to find and arn't that great. You could go with a CT26 off a Supra, or you could go with a T3 or T4. You've already seen Jeffs site, check out Darins: www.22returbo.net he's doing a mid dollar project. I'm doing a "low" dollar using mostly 22RE parts, and a T3(with an adapter on the manifold). I'm using a standard 22RE head, and Darin and Jeff are using pretty much regular 22RE heads(higher compression) with much much more head work than I've got.

how much boost can this engine hold with the stock turbo and internals as well with a 100k mile engine?

I wouldn't go more than 20-30 psi, but if you were to go that high, you'd obviously have to upgrade the intake and exhaust systems, as well as strengthen the front cover system by installing steel timing chain guides.
check Jeff's site at: http://www.well.com/user/mosk/ and Darin's site at: http://www.22returbo.net hope that helps |

with the stock turbo, though, about 7-12 psi. I'd ditch that for a CT26 or CT12A or Garrett, myself.

After doing a bit more digging I thing I'm going to swap my stock CT20 for a CT26 out of a supra.
I've got an adapter and a T3 sitting at home, I guess $$$ will dictate what I do. As for how much boost the engine can hold...yes I'm sure it could put up to 20-30lbs. The block is tough and with forged slugs rods and crank they'll take it. the head would need some beefing up as the stock one has some thin spots. However you'd have to consider deminishing returns. It's only a 2-valve engine, so you're going to have limited top end, so you can force as much air through the turbo as you want, but if it can't get in and out of the cylinders, what's the point? Also with a redline of ~5500RPM, a turbo putting out 30lbs, isn't going to be 30lbs at the TB...plus it'll probably only get to that level at what 5000K? how useful is that?

My 22R-GTE and 24R-GTE engines, on sale in starting sometime in 2009-2011, should take care of the SOHC 2 valve problem.
