1 old tire, 1 new tire, same axle?

Here is the deal. I got a flat the other day & it wrecked the tire. The other 3 are still decent (30%, 4/32") the dealer said I would need to replace both the tires on the same axle. New tire would be 9/32".

I know if you have the 2 on the front axle you can hav radial runout which will make it feel like it is pulling to one side all the time.

What about the back? Is there possible damage to the differential? The dealer didn't mention why, just said since it is a 4x4 we would need to do both tires.

Anybody know or tried it?

it's always a good idea to have matching tires on the same axle. 4/32 is practicly work out. what tires did you get that only have 9/32 new? that seems awful low. the 31" bfgs a/ts have 16 i believe

I am talking about 17" rims & tires.

Revos have 13/32 new
The ones with only 4/32" are michelins, new they had 12/32" when new = 33% left

the new one that I have is the spare that came with the truck - it is a Dunlop Grand Trac & they only came new with 9/32" on them. It does have a slightly different tread pattern - not much though. I wanted to wear out the other 3 michelins over the next year before I buy new revos for the other truck & swap the others back on to the 4 runner.

Alll this is because the tires on the runner are more of a mud tire & suck in the snow - so I wanted to put the AT tires back on for winter but now I am 1 short due to the flat & can't aford a new set of revos for the sequoia now, so I am using my spare set of dunlops on the sequoia (ones that usually go on the runner) I was then going to use one of the mud tires as a spare tire in the winter to get me through and run the 3 ,ichelins and the one Grand Trac for driving

the size difference new between the michelin & the dunlop is .1" in overall diameter = 3/32" per the websites. So then the michelin is really (adding the 3/32 difference to the tire) only 2/32 different - doesn't seem like much

However the question is really if anybody has had a differnce in wear from side to side on the sam axle & do they have any issues/comments, etc.

from what I understand, its going to want to pull to one side with less tread on one tire then the other, significant difference. making the new tires treadwear variably uneven.. id replace the other as well

Will it still pull if it is on the back? Will 2/32" make a difference?

it may not.. drive with it for a little to see what you think.. but it could be different for each tire compound
