I've tried forever, and I can upload a picture, but its always too small and blurry to even know what it is.

You need a resizing program to resize a pic to become an avatar. I recommend getting http://www.irfanview.com/. See if that works.

its advisable to pic a picture that is fairly large to begin with so that when you sqeeze it down it still looks like something
if you Really cant find a resize tool on that fancy mac, send it to me, it takes all of like 15 sec to do...

when you go to upload your avitar it notes it can only be 140x140 and max of 10.0K
when i resize them i use the "pixel" count instead of % of org size. type in 140 and save..... if your over the size limit, up your jpeg compression ratio.  or
