TPS issue on 22RE

I have a 89 yota 4x4 with a 22RE from a 4runner(I was told) I got this truck on a trade a few days ago, and the guy said he runs it with the TPS unhooked. Went to start it in the morning and didnt want to idle at all. plugged in the TPS and it ran with a crazy idle. High High RPMs. unhooked it and it decreased to dieing idle. Finally got it to start and idle, but it is very high idle. and if it sits too long it doesnt want to start. it is a brand new TPS. also when the truck is running and i hook up the TPS it does the high low idle. any suggestions? Thanks!

You cant just hook and unhook the TPS and expect it to run properly. The TPS has to be adjusted.
