Mods please sticky: After some discussion in another thread I decided it would be a good idea to get a FAQ thread up and running here on YT. There's a ton of info on this board and I realize that it can be hard to find things by searching so here it all is nice and organized. Feel free to add more as this is just a start. Here is a picture of this combination showing the minor front fender trimming needed to fit the tires. Conventional wisdom suggests a full 4" IFS lift for this wheel/tire combination, but using a combination of milder lift components will produce the same end result that will function as well if not better than the taller all-in-one lift kit and at less cost. And in case you think this won't work, take a look at this very combination in action in 4x4Wire's Hot Toys write-up on Don West's '94 pickup. 35x12.50 on 15x8 w/ 3.75" backspace wheels needs 4" IFS suspension lift plus 2" body lift for good fit. Many IFS lifts require less backspacing on the wheels to clear the dropped A-arms, this in turn pushes the wheels/tires out farther from the body, making tire/body contact more of an issue. The 2" body lift can help reduce rubbing. Less lift may be possible with more fender trimming. ProComp #7210 are Longer than stock Stainless Steel brake lines. (set of three) One piece 23" long replacement brake line for the front is Napa #38688 This turns out to be a front line from a 90-96 Nissan 300ZX if you wanna get one from somewhere else. The flexible rear brake line (goes from the hardline to the rear axle) is commonly used for extending the front and rear brakes lines since it has one male end and one female end. So when these lines are swapped inline with the stock lines, and you will have plenty of room for extra lift and flexy suspensions. The Napa #38256 is the stock length (19" long) rear flexible brake hose. Napa #36881 is 11" long if you need one a bit shorter. Or you can buy a second stock brakeline and and use the 2 together for the extra length, Napa # 38796. awesome, 5 kudos for you for doing that. another thing i would suggest is something for the threads on backspacing?? or something for the "can i fit rims from a 01 on a 96" or visa versa. maybe those don't fit in here, but just a suggestion.

edit: nevermind the backspacing idea, as you already covered it in the lift. awesome.

i think the pickup generation labelling is wrong. it should probably just include the hilux line('69-95 in the US), 1st gen would be '69-72, 2nd gen would be '73-78, 3rd gen, 79-83 and so on. most guys go by 4x4s though so that gets kinda confusing.

Toyota North America's own generation listing is confusing, but they do list the 2005 truck as the 7th generation light truck and 2nd generation Tacoma.

I agree that reference using 4WD confuses things. But Toyota in 1979 did market the 4WD pickup as the son of a Land Cruiser as though it was a new model and that's about when they started selling like crazy.

It would be so much easier if everyone would just quit using the "gen" term and instead just state the model & year. There would never be any confusion. There was a guy posting not long ago who couldn't figure out why he couldn't find any parts for this rig - imagine asking the guy at the parts counter for "deckplate mod for a second gen toyota!"

I personally would like to see a thread dedicated to engine conversions.

Also a link on the main page pointing to the newbie section might prove to be beneficial. I joined two days ago and just found all of this.
