newbie tire question

i am installing a 3 inch suspension lift with the differential drop
i have a 96 runner limited it of course has the running boards
what size tires will i be able to run with the lift installed
without taking off the running boards

i was also considering some 1.5 inch wheel spacers to fill up the fender wells

any help here is greatly appreciated

There are many threads on this topic, so I would suggest a search. What type of suspension lift will you be installing? I have 265/75R 16's on my 2002 ~ 32". Some people run 285/75R 16's ~ 33", but according to some, you'll need a body lift so the tires don't rub up front, along with some flatening of a pinch weld.

If you're planning on wheel spacers, you won't need the BL, but the opinions on that are mixed at best. Good luck.

I would say 33x10.50 on stock rims. I think it's 255/85-16 in metric.

Wheel spacers will make the running board interference worse - a lot worse. The farther out the wheel is, the larger the scrub radius. The only reason to add spacers or increase the backspacing on the wheel is to prevent it from rubbing the frame, but you're gonna hit other stuff way before you have to worry about that...

lots of people have removed the boards and left the flares. it looks fine in the rear but some say it looks sort of unfinished in the front. thats when you install mudflaps and youre done

I second the 255/85 idea. If I had 16's thats what I'd get.

Avoid nurf bars unless you are an avid mall-crawler. For a similar price, you can get some rock sliders welded on (search "rock sliders"). Not only can you stand on rock sliders, but you can literally use them (if need be) for other purposes, such as sliding on rocks and using them as a jack point with a highlift jack - which you'll probably need anyway thanks to your 3" lift and larger tires.

PS: I got $70 for my running boards on ebay (just the plain chrome ones)
