Need louder exhaust

I have a '93 Toyota Pickup 2WD 4Cyl, I know it maybe a dumb question cause it's a 4cyl. But I took my muffler off and just have my cat, it's pretty loud and nice hah but I hear that's bad for it cause there's no back pressure? But I also want to know if anyone has put anything on their truck to make it sound nicer and louder, please and thank you

You can check out a Magnaflow, look up "(your motor) exhaust" on Youtube and it should give you several options to listen to.

Any Magnaflow is going to be quieter than NO muffler.

I just replaced a muffler with a hole in it, with a Magna 4x9x18 3-chamber. It's much quieter. If you took the muffler OFF, no other muffler is going to sound louder.

Louder = remove more pipe. Just cut the downpipe, that should annoy everyone around. If that's your purpose. Why worry about performance if your main goal is to be annoying?

I've got the loudest pipes i can buy on my bike, because i was hit by a truck that changed lanes into me. As i was lying on my back on the interstate, i heard the moron say he didn't see me. Are you having trouble being noticed?

Don't do foolish things with your truck. Put a 2.25" 'cherry bomb' on it, at the least.

It's getting harder to remember when I could sleep at night without being woken up by an underwhelming 4 banger with a loud exhaust.

nicer and louder are two different things IMO. basically the less restriction and baffling, the louder it gets, but doesnt exactly sound nice depending on what you do. if you're going to be doing any mods, you might as well do it for some performance reason, not just sound alone. at least that's my opinion if i'm going to be spending any money on it.

best thing to do would be to replace as much exhaust pipe as possible with a larger diameter so you have less restriction, many go with 2-2.25" for 22re engines. the stock CAT and mufflers are not a free-flowing and you cannot see through them, aftermarket versions you can - you can imagine how much increased flow you'd get when you can now see through it AND have larger diameter than stock. if you can afford it, upgrade the header as well. i'd personally keep the exhaust stock length, but you could easily make it terminate before rear axle and make it louder.

Putting exhaust headers will make your truck louder.

Open exhaust routed into the cab will make it loud for you and hopefully quieter for everyone else that would be annoyed by exhaust. Plus then you could get away with wearing a gas mask and goggles while driving around and complete the mad max theme.

I completely endorse this method!

But just to be clear all the cool kiddies drive with their hoodies up to block their peripheral vision, not with gas masks and goggles.

Hmm, if they painted the goggles black with the same shade they used on their taillight lenses it just might catch on.

Red face

Great idea I was thinking along these lines as well.

Why does a loud exhaust give one the illusion of increased power

Doing all the head work where this engine builds power

I wonder a custom built header to a true dual exhaust .

So many ideas never enough time!!

There are few things in this world that sound worse than an unmuffled 4 cylinder engine. If you want your truck to sound nice with no muffler put a V8 in it Otherwise, stick a muffler on it and spare us all, will you?

Actually, not so much.

I just put on the LCE headers, 2.25 all the way through with Hi flow cat and muffler from magnaflow.

It's a bit raspy, almost fart-canny, when you get on it, but otherwise idles and cruises quietly.

It was much louder with the muffler that had a hole blown in it. And cracked manifold.

If you truly want loud, nothing beats cutting the downpipe. But I'll be the first to shove a tater in it if you come through my neighborhood routinely.
