Idk what i like better?

So im gonna be making my own bumpers (Front and rear), and sliders here pretty soon. My question is, what do u guys prefer, a big beffy push bumper kinda like an ARB (I think thats what their called?) or a tube stinger like TG or Addicted Offroads? My friends arent any help, but i was jus wonderin what u guys prefered? I love both of them but i cant have both Pics are always welcome ... And btw i have searched and looked at all the custom made ones here on the site. Also, what guage/size steel would u use. I dont want super heavy but i need it to be stong. (I beat the hell out of my truck hah)

I'm in process right now.

Using a 10' piece of 3/8th inch X 12".

1/4" x 6" plate + 3" x 3" x 3/16 for mounting the thing, it will look more like arb than anything tubed.

So far for the main bumper not the top "ring" I'm at 103lbs for total steel weight but have lots of trimming to do, I'm hoping to be 95-115lbs once all is finished.

Lots of cutting and grinding, man hours will be the killer.

Its not what we like. Its what you like.

If you do alot of wheeling, a stinger might come in handy for the day you roll your rig.
But most think the plate bumpers are cleaner looking.

Or do a hybrid of the two.

Ya a hybrid would look really cool, but im really worried about weight... an extra 100lbs adleast to the front is alot.. Thats why im leaning torwards the stinger. Another thing about the ARB style bumper is i would need to beef up my Xmember since its only about 18 gauge steel (i think)... I would still like opinions cause i knw its my choice but i love both of em.

And hilandfrog, got any pics?

im currious about material thickness, i have a plan in my head for some bumpers i will fab for my truck 1/4 seems over kill. also i don't have a torch or a plasma cutter so all cutting will happen with abrasives. for the front bumper something as thin as 1/8 would probably be plenty strong (don't have plans for a winch). but i plan on building a receiver hitch on my rear bumper. think something a little thicker would probably be needed. my design is in the early stages and all in my head.

i prefer the boxier style bumpers over the tube bumpers, i thought about making a tube rear to match my front but i don't have a bender tubing needs to be notched to fit together on your weld joints so i have decided to make a new front bumper as well as rear for the reasons that i prefer the style better as well as easier for me to make.

Ya thats what i was thinkin! I can get 4x8 sheet of 10 gauge steel for about 165, and that should be enought to make myself the front bumper. But im planning on having a winch later, so thatll add even more weight... Again im jus favoring te tube bumper cause of weight and simplicity.

my plan i will be building the bumpers out of 6 inch wide square rectangular tubing probably 3 inch deep (still not sure for depth yet.) it will be taper up to about 3-4 inch wide (tall) on the ends, starting around 1.5 feet off center (3 foot flat area across the bottom of the bumper) then make about a two foot cut top and bottom of the outer face then one vertical down the center folding in the center and cutting off the top of tube to match this shape creating the "licence plate" area then ill probably buy one of them bolt on hitch receivers that some people bolt to the bottom of there stock bumper and welding that onto the bottom of the bumper for a reviver hitch. when i get closer to biulding this i will i will draw it out on paper and mock up in cardbord to get my measurements down

for the front i want to use the same concept but make probably 3 triangle shaped cuts towards the outer edge running top to bottom to make the curve around the side under the headlight/marker light area

if i do decide down the road that i want a winch i could add a strip of thicker steel across the bottom to the mounts that would distribute the load across the entire bumper put a receiver on and run a winch mounted to the receiver so it could be moved front to back.

his biuld thread
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198...-build-220527/

i wont be cutting the factory roll pan off so it will be pushed out a little further i also wont have the pieces going under the rear 1/4's my receiver would be mounted below the bumper and the center of the bumper would be recessed.

front would be same concept but the outer edges would be "rolled" to follow the body lines

im also toying with the idea in my head of cutting 2 4 inch round holes with a hole saw just off the sides of the license plate indention to house two backup lights.

3" X 3" x 3/16 centered up

Placing holes, still need to open one up/ back about an 1/4"

Angle Iron and 1/4" X 6" plates welded up and secured on, only drilled out on hole for the front and 2 for the bottom along the frame, where tow hooks go.

Obviously I need to put both bolts in to keep things true w/ the frame

Actual bumper steel, 3/16ths, bent 2" for the top, 6" on the face and the remaing 3 1/2" + bends down not to exceed 2" back

The outsides are cut but not welded, they will taper off to just below the second bend, Have some strapping that I'll strengthen up the bottom w/.

i'm interested to see what you guys come up with. I am also in the process of fabbing a rear bumper, and thinking about using some 3x6 square tubing. I'm worried about strengthening the receiver hitch and keeping my stock spare tire location a little bit.

Are you going to use the stock rear bumper mounts or make new ones?
