Found a 85 turbo diesel
So I've been looking for a extended cab 4x4 22re to buy. While looking I came across a 85 4x4 2lte turbo diesel. I know my way around a 22re but have no idea about the turbo diesels. The price on the truck isn't bad and this truck is very tempting to buy. I've done some research on these truck and found that they have a overheating issue and prone to having cracked heads. My question is, I want to use this truck as a daily driver, am I getting over my head with this truck? It has 285K miles. I haven't looked at it yet but was told nothing is leaking and it runs fine, but he did say I probably should trailer it home since I live 5 hours away. I am a huge diesel fan and have a late model duramax but I am not very diesel mechanically inclined. Am I getting over my head with a truck with that many miles? Do you guys think I am constantly going to be working on it? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

If nothing is leaking and it drives fine, I'd be questioning why he recommends trailering it home. I'm not sure about diesels but I've got some experience getting shafted from used car purchases. Check for drier spots than others, where leaks would typically be that would show attempts at covering up leaks. It seems people are really good at covering up problems until a few days later after you already are committed to the vehicle... good luck, hopefully some diesel guys can chime in..

My question is where did it come from??
Then maybe your not in CONUS.
Was it imported by someone or was the engine swapped in and if so is it a good job??
Hard call to make on the mileage not having any idea what work may have been done.
It could be in need of some major TLC .
Have can you like Diesels and not have fuel in your veins??
If you got a extra day and feel like a ride go check it out.
I have never bought a Toyota 4x4 I did not need to spend another $1000.00 in parts catching up on neglected maintenance..
Just depends where you are as well
