evap. canister(did a search)

Today I went to my truck and noticed a small puddle under the pass. side by the front tire. I thought " great a leak" . I stuck my finger in it and it smelled like gas. First thought then was the fuel filter fittings came lose. so when I got home I checked the fittings and they were tight. went under the truck and found it coming from a hose. I followed the hose to the evap. can. I have checked and found very little on why it would come out. Does it need replaced? Would it cause my truck to run a little rough? I have replaced the plugs, wires, dist.cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, and have cleaned the afm and throttle body. When I can afford it I'm going to replace the O2 sensor and a couple of small things. Thanks for any info.
