Do I need a new Axel?
Got the knuckle service kit from Marlin Crawling. Got this far and I am concerned about the pitting on the knuckle ball. This thing was basically bone dry. So can you sand and buff it down or do I need a new Axel?

Cool thanks. But follow up question. What's a carborundum cloth? And where would I get one. Also maybe I should explain. The black area is not on top of the silver finish on the ball its dug into and through the surface. Like not totally cratered but metal has been scratched off

Any good auto parts place should have it.
It has a woven cloth backing, so it is a bit more durable than paper backed abrasives.
Something like #180 or #220 grit to start, and maybe #400 grit to finish.
Does'nt have to be perfect, but smoother is better than rougher.
Just about any axle housing you might find will be buggered up some.
Many worse than yours.
