oh no hope this dont turn into a body lift hate thread. BL's are perfectly fine. no you will not need new shocks. there connected to the frame, your only raising the body

X3, no change in shocks, see below for a full explanation:

Or a simple way to look at it. Imagine unbolting the body and lifting it clear off the frame. Assuming you could rig it up to be drivable, the remaining chassis would work just fine, frame, engine, suspension, etc.

the whole idea of a body lift is to gain more clearance for tires without effecting the ride os stock suspension... which isnt the best for wheeling, but a 2 inch body lift, some bj spacers, an add a leaf, some 35's, 5.29's, and locker(s) make a pretty suhweeeet rig. just sayin. no you dont need new shocks. dont let anyone tell you body lifts are bad. just DO NOT get one over 3 inches, and ideally 2. just some advice

Both are fine, depends on what your goals are:
"Lift as much as needed, but as little as possible"

I would not go 3" becuase there is more work involved; extending the steering, transmission shifters, maybe fuel tank filler, whatever else 4crawlers site says.
Plus they're real easy to spot with such a big gap between the frame and body.
My old 4runner came with a 3" on it and I took it down to a 1" and it felt/drove much better with less swaying on the freeway. But it also had a 4" suspension lift.
Also if youre going to do future mods like bumpers or sliders it will be much easier to accomodate a shorter body lift.
If you do go with a BL 4crawler is where I got mine and it worked great.
