BFG A/T vs. BFG M/T

ok, I l searched and it came up with no matches, so please dont start harrasing me, I wont to know what everybody perfers, I live in the desert so I would like a tire that would be good out here, Im going to run 32 inch, if that matters so whicj tire should I get, and money is a bit of a factor. Please state your reason why you perfer one over the other.

I havent seen much mud in the desert. get the all terrains

The AT will probally provide you with tons of tractioin in sand, desert conditions. My street tires were always better at the dunes than my swapers, all the swampers wanted to do was make a trip for egg rolls...

But M/T's dont have to be bought for mud. I had mud, refuse to purposly do mud... but I like them for the extra grip on hills, and espically snow. Some rocks you grip better with M/T's, some with A/T's.

If money is a huge factor hold out as long as you can, dont short change yourself there you will regreit it. I know winter is coming and you may or may not get enought winter weather to worry about tread... but I would get the tire you want even if you have to wait a little longer... assuming your current treat can allow that.

I have the A\T's I like the tire except for the fact they do seem to throw alot of rocks. If your tires stick out at all it will beat your paint to death.
I just had my truck painted and have chips all down the sides now.

yeah the a/t's are nice but tend to throw stones. The main difference is that the m/t's are designed to clean the mud out of the treads, and have bigger treads, than the a/t's. Unless you're dealing with a fair amount of mud you're probably better off with the a/t's

I vote for the A/Ts as well. I have taken mine out on the beach several times and they did very well for me in the sand. Also, I have always had better luck with A/Ts over M/Ts in the snow and if you take any trips north you will probably end up in snow more often than mud.

As far as the brand goes, I have had several sets of BFG tires on several rigs and they have all held up great with excellent treadwear (even with wheeling).

MT's are great for deep snow and mud. They don't do rainy pavment or ice very well. They both last a very long time and are worth the money. I have AT's on my truck now amd love them.

I am wondering the same thing. 2 people now have told me to get the m/t's over the a/t's. Either of these tires will be a stickly summer tire. The tires will be sticking out of the fenders a little bit. How loud are the m/t's on the highway, and do the m/t's throw rocks like the a/t's do?

I found the MT's quiet compaired to other argressive tires, still hear them though. They don't grab rocks because the spaces between the lugs are big.

My m/t's arent that loud, i'd say 1/8th the sound of my cousin's swampers or or MT/R's..... they get loud over 85mph... but then everything is loud at that speed...

You can get the center blocks siped to help with wet/icy traction and reduce road noise. I did it to my Kuhmo M/Ts.

I've had the same size sets of BFG At's and MT's (33x12.50x15) and didn't notice a difference in mileage between the 2. I did notice my ability to go through mud became non-existant with the AT's. They are good for Moderate wheelin, but IMO they turn into slicks if they are in mud

I have found ( having had both ) that the MTs do better overall offroad. Even in the desert it just seems to get a better bite. And not all desert off roading is sand. Far from it. Lots of rock sections.

On the road the AT's do have a small advantage over the MTs.

I totally agree that AT's are like sand blasters on the paint. On high speed desert sections I have completely removed the paint and primer down to bare metal on my sliders. This is not a problem with MT's.

You really cannot go wrong with either tire though. BFG's rule!

if money is a big factor, you might want to take a look at the new Kumho Road Venture AT KL78's or MT 834's. if you really want to stick to BFG, you gotta determine what you'll be using them for. it's not very economical to get MT's if you're on the street 95% of the time.

Well I have m/t terrains now and they shave paint off also, anyways why be a girl and worry about your paint, its a rig for god sakes, out here it can get real rocky and theres a lot of compacted clay with loose gravel on top, not much mud considering it doesnt rain reall here same goes for snow, what would be the recommended tire, Im think a/t?

well like peopel are saying it all depends on the terrain. I preffer the mt because of the mud and steep lose stuff where i wheel. I also liek the sidewall tread on the mt as well. As someone metioned the mt sucks on wet pavement. I have the 33's on my 4runner and even with a stock 22re and 4.10 gears they will spin really easy on wet sometimes not even under hard acceleration. If mud is for you then get the mt if sand and gravel road type stuff then at. Id recomend gettign them from costco if you have one around they are the cheapest and have an amzing tire warranty. I ripped a sidewall after only 2000 miles and i got new tires.

i've had my M/T's throw some pretty giant rocks up and hit my elbow while it was out the window. it was pretty painful. I mean, it was upwards of the size of a ping pong ball, and i wasn't going very fast
