best differential for 4runner 1995
Hi, I have an 4runner 1995 4x2, 3.0 lts automatic and my rear differential is an 390, like read on door plate, my tires are 265-70-15, on climb run too slow, I want to mount a differential, but I need to know my best combination to mount, somebody told me that a 410 differential is the combination that I need, Hey guys, any idea to me? thankyou

I'm in the process of swapping my 3.90 out with a 4.30. I'll be able to tell you about the difference today hopefully. I know that 4.10 is going to give you more torque on those hills. It doesn't sound like much of a difference but it will feel like a lot. My last runner had 4.10s in it and since I've been driving this 3.90 rig, I can tell you the 3.90 are fast once you get them rolling but it does a lot of downshifting once you get a load on it. Definitely liked the 4.10s better.
I think the 4.10 was pretty standard in the 4WD models like yours. You should be able to find a good used one pretty easily.

I am not sure of the 2wd auto transmission gears but typically from the factory 4wd's with 31's I believe came with 4:56's. so I would imagine if you went with 29's you would feel a bit more grunt but spin higher RPM's at freeway speed. Someone will chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

Auto OD .705
Manual OD .836
This chart will help calculate
http://www.morris4x4center.com/jeep-...FUuRfgodsUcCkw
OD ratios at 65mph/105kph
Stock 411 & 29" = 2180rpm, Which sucks and keeps the torque lock bouncing on and off and lots of trans heat.
430 & 29" = 2267rpm Better then stock for street use.
456 & 29" = 2420rpm Which should work great, Turn the toque lock on early and hold up through 85mph highway.
488 & 29" = 2590rpm, Same as manual OD with 456 & 32" tires which works ok.
I think the auto OD works well between 2300-2500rpm (Not confirmed)
Any opinions on this and I would like to hear from manual shift auto (a340x) shift range opinions.
Manual works well in OD at 2500-2600rpm range @ 65mph
Personal setups.
456 & 31" = 2686rpm, A little high on the rpm range on the freeway. (what was on my runner when I bought it)
456 & 32" = 2600rpm, Works good, Even on inclines.
456 & 33" = 2523rpm, Works good, I got 22mpg on two separate trips but hilly inclines downshift.
488 & 33" = 2700rpm, Way to high for highway use, Gas mileage out the window.
I went 488 with a plan to go back to auto but should have gotten 513 since I was planning 34"-35" tires
But may just stay at 33".
I suggest all offroad autos get an external trans cooler ASAP.
