abnormally high compression
I just recently bought an 88 4Runner with the 3vze. I have been going through the truck getting it road worthy again and performed a compression check on the engine and got: 1-200 2-205 3-210 4-210 5-200 6-195. I ran the engine until it was warm and then pulled all the plugs, installed the compression gauge and turned over the engine until the gauge stopped going up. Has anyone ever run into this before? Could this possibly be from a rebuild with flat top pistions or a head that has been decked? I checked my compression gauge to my air compressor last night and they were with in 2psi of each other.

Anything might have been done to that engine in near 30 years.
Does it run well and not consume too much oil??
Don't worry, Be happy.
Who cares why the compression is high.
Check and adjust the valve lash to make sure it stays that way.

This was a dry test after I let the engine idle for about 10-15 min. The engine runs rough and has no power right now but I believe it is because the knock sensor check engine light has the ecu in limp mode. I'm curious about the condition of the engine because I have a 2RZ in good condition im considering swapping in, but will just keep the 3vze if its been rebuilt/had the headgasket changed/ in good condition.
