Talking 95 pickup truck oil pan

Help needed to determine whether is easier to drop the differential on my 4x4 or raise the engine slightly to get the oil pan out. My son and I put a new timing chain on ( 22re) but need to get the broken guide pieces out of the pan and are not sure of the best way. Thanks for your help.

I have heard of it being done both ways. I'm not sure which is easier, though. I'm not much help since I have a body and suspension lift, so I can drop mine without too much hassle
