87 22re ECU

So my 87 22re 1 ton motorhome was taking 3-4 cranks to turn over, then finally wouldn't turn over at all a couple weekends ago. Took it to a mechanic (new shop for me) and they say the computer is bad.

I've been searching on here and other sites (and still unclear) and wonder if the ECU is interchangeable for an 85-88 22re. AND also if it has to be an ECU from the 1 ton chassis or if one will work from a standard truck. The OEM part # for mine is 89661-35040. Have the part # for the 1988 1 ton (35140) as well as the 86-87 pickup (35060). Just wondering if I need to stick with the same part or if any of those others will work.

Just had timing chain and all related components replaced as well as new exhaust manifold, O2 sensor and muffler installed before this. Here's the info from my mechanic (sorry it's in all caps from them!):
VEHICLE STARTS FOR 2 SECONDS & THEN DIES - WILL NOT STAY
RUNNING. CHECKED IGNITION, SPARK, FUEL PRESSURE & INJECTOR
PULSE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS PULSE @ THE COLD START INJECTOR,
ALL OTHERS ARE DEAD. REMOVED #1 FUEL INJECTOR CONNECTOR &
CHECKED FOR POWER. INJECTORS ARE GETTING POWER BUT NO
GROUND WHEN THE ENGINE IS CRANKING. CHECKED ALL WIRE
GROUNDS ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD & CHECKED COMPUTER GROUND (
ALL ARE GOOD ) CHECKED THE RESISTANCE OF EACH FUEL
INJECTOR, SHOULD BE BETWEEN 1.5 & 3.0 ohms ( INJECTORS ARE
GOOD @ 2.8 ohms ) INSPECTED WIRING FROM INJECTORS TO
INJECTOR RESISTER & TO THE COMPUTER ( ALL WIRING LOOKS GOOD
) CHECKED FOR PULSE @ INJECTOR GROUND WIRES @ COMPUTER ( NO
PULSE ) CHECKED RESISTANCE OF THE INJECTOR SOLONOID
RESISTOR ( RESIATANCE IS GOOD @ 3.5 ohms ) WENT BACK TO THE
COMPUTER & CHECKED FOR PULSE TO GROUND FROM THE ENGINE
REVOLUTION SENSOR ( PULSE IS GOOD ) THE COMPUTER IS GETTING
INFORMATION THAT IT NEEDS TO GROUND THE INJECTOR CIRCUIT
BUT IT IS NOT. COMPUTER IS BAD ( RECOMEND NEW COMPUTER &
RE-CHECK SYSTEM )

from chefyotas deal with his issues and finding out that the part numbers are different for the AFM, TPS etc etc thoughout different years, I would see if all of the parts numbers of all the parts controlled by the ECU are the same as well.

Hope you've solved the problem, however, if not, I'd recommend making DANG SURE that thing is compatible(in regards to replacement) OR that the shop you're hoping can rebuild that thing has the skills to do so.

You can find a used one on EBAY most days for 75-125$, ..... WITH a Warranty. Some of them are from shops and often offer a print out of the bench test of said ECU. Personally, I would steer clear of having one rebuilt, but not being an electronics genius, myself, I guess that doesn't mean much, eh? lol. Just telling you from experience... THESE CAN REALLY cause problems if they're not resisting or grounding properly. Most yards even have them and will let you return them if you test it right in their lot(Mine was going to let me return it if it didn't work at a 20% loss..... But it worked, lol).

Best wishes, Sir! Any updates?
