3" BL and Towing

With 2"-3" BL will I have problems with towing a trailer? mind you, I have never towed before but plan on getting a boat. also, with the 3" BL do you need a steering adapter?

yes there is usually a steering shaft spacer included in the lifts.

and are toy towing off of the bumper? or do you have a tow package?

more worried about the trailer connecting to the hitch...probably would be too high. i have no idea...

ok, I found out some stuff info i wanted on their site. but who here have BL their 3rd gen. without the radiator extension,bumper?

thanks guys for quick response. i have been reading since that past 2 days and my eyeball is about to pop out but its good i'm pretty excited i just got the ride. I saw one picture on here and was wowed. its a must that i lift at least 4"

imo only lift your rig as high as needed to fit the tires you plan to run.

and the tow package is attached to the frame so a bl will not affect it. only bigger tires or a suspension lift will affect the height of the tow package. and even then you could always just get a drop hitch. im not sure what all needs to be done when putting a bl on a 97 runner, as i have never installed one.

The lift is for the looks and I plan on running 31 or 32's ..depending how much gas ill be using up

. Also, winter is coming and plan to hit the mt. to snowboard... playing in the mud is also on the list but no rock climbing...going trails, sight seeing, fishing.

I like to add, I'll be doing coil and shock setup later down the road when I'm more clear about it...was planing on dropping the fj80 fronts to the rear but found out its not a PnP kinda thing..few more mods needed

so i jumped to the BL for now.

yea i spent about 1100 bucks on my lift it clears 285s which are about 33'' tall tire just fine

i find these trucks wayy too low stock. even with a 3 inch body lift it looks too short

1000+ bones is alot! since I won't be doing anything extreme...hopefully i find a way to spend half of that for 4"+ lift.

yah, I'm with you guys on the lift. It just look way different than a sock 4runner/trucks and looks 10x better.

anyhow, I'm reading whats being needed to remove and unbolt before I jack the frame up..and so far its not good news. more than I expected but satisfied when done for sure.

well yea it's gonna be more work to jack up the frame...you don't jack up the frame to install a body lift..you jack up the body LOL..

thats $300 settup isn't bad at all...

my rear is currently sagging too. might end up with some 99 on all 4 or just back...

it's really still up in the air on whats my actual plan on lifting the yota. prob. end up spending $1000 + who knows

that 4runner has a 6'' drop bracket lift once you go past 285s gonna look into re gearing which cost easlly another 1,000

No lift needed for that size tires:

But if you do a body lift, no change in trailering, as you can just leave the tow hitch where it is, so it won't be any higher (aside from the increased tire height).

guys what a terrible spray paint way to ruin a perfectly good looking vehicle-to each his own...I admit I do like the look of the lift but that is not what yours is going to be....

I will go on record and say if you have never trailered before no-it is not a wise idea to start now with a lifted short wheelbase vehicle.

Obviously there are many variables at play, tongue weight and total length of tow vehicle versus towed boat or trailer. Total weight is also a critical factor and I have not seen exactly what weights we are discussing.

How far would you be towing and how often?

You're a 5 speed like me-is the clutch up to the extra work? The jury is still out on a lot of topics but towing is generally left to the automatics. Not saying you can't accomplish this but is it worth it? Crossing long mountain passes? think this over please....yes it can be done but safely and for a beginner there are better safer choices.

I would encourage you to drive the vehicle for some period of time to get used to the new dynamics of the lift. Your butt needs some seat time at that much of a higher position and adjusting your speed through turns and so on.

I would do the spring lift first and see if that does not get you what you want. You say you already have the rear sag so what is the point of a body lift and leaving saggy butt springs out back? You can see from the pictured unit he will not keep front shocks but a couple of months at those heights-those have to be extended length units I presume.

I want you to be sure you are considering all the possibilities. Any lift encompasses a whole lot of variables that you have now altered the geometry.

You're putting your life and everyone else on the road in danger if you don't know what you are doing while towing. Please don't plan to learn as you go....discuss this thoroughly and study up.
