2l-te ?

Hello,
I'm looking for information on putting a 2L-TE into my 1993 4x4 pickup. This pickup does have the Extended cab.
Will it fit ? It had the V6 in it.
The Engine I'm looking at is a JDM engine imported from Japan. Are these typically good Engines ??
Since its an " E " i'm guessing it will need an ECU ??

Thanks for your help..

Clancy..

I did post this in Diesel swaps.. 115 stopped by to look see.
No one had any input. So I'm trying the question here.

Thanks

Clancy

The 2lT-E is the 2LT turbo diesel engine with Electronic diesel injection pump as fitted to the Japanese Spec Surf's ect. Here in Australia, the 2LT-E motors are common and rated as a piece of rubbish. The cylinder heads are prone to cracking, and fuel pump seals tend to leak due to age. All is not lost, the cylinder heads can be purchased brand new via China for around the $1200 mark, the fuel pumps can be re-conditioned for around the $1500 mark or purchased brand new from Toyota for around the $3000 mark. If your doing an engine conversion, you will need a 2LT-E ecu and front main loom to get everything running. A common conversion here is Australia is ditch the Electronic fuel pump for an earlier hilux mechanical fuel pump. The motors a relatively cheap to rebuild, here in oz a complete engine rebuilt kit costs around the AUS $900 mark plus your machining/labour costs if your not doing the work yourself. These are a few upgrades that can be done to get more out of the motor like a decent exhaust system, and adding an inter-cooler setup.

Hi J-dog,
Thanks very much for the input. What causes the heads to crack ?

The heads crack mainly due to a combination of poor design (the material thickness between the head surface and internal cooling passage is pretty poor) combined with age, poor maintenance, corrosion on the walls of the coolant chambers all add to the cracking issues. The link below has some good photos taken of the cylinder head and issues.
