22RE wonky idle, now won't start

As the title says my 22re motor has one of the wonkiest idles ever, sometimes its just as smooth as can be...then sometimes it's high, and then sometimes the only way to keep the truck on when the clutch is pushed in is to give it gas
I do have a vacum plugged that is supposed to go into the blue VSV(think that's what its called, the nipple that the vacum goes on is broke off)

Either way i was coming home on the interstate today, anywhere from 60-80mph I get ready to take my off exit and i downshift to fourth only to not hear the truck, i look at my tach to find that it's dead, i figure no problem ill just stick it in neutral push the clutch in drop it in fifth and start it that way, well that no worky. Got it stopped at about the end of the ramp and tried starting back up...all she would do is crank crank crank.

Any ideas on what this could be, i realize it could be a lot of things, one of my thoughts is the ignitor/coil. Either that or maybe the ign. fuse blew? I don't know currently. Also the ECU when it does it's click click noise, does the motor have to be on or does the key just need to be in the on position?

Thanks All

Well it turned out, i blew the ignition fuse under the hood. But it was due to one of my wires touching my egr where the coating melted. And that caused the ignition fuse to keep blowing.

What about the Willie Wonker idle?
Did you solve that also?

There are a number of things that can cause a erratic idle. Start with this and see what happens.
Check all your vacuum lines.
Post up your progress.
