22re hesitation
Alright guys. I have a 1995 toyota pickup with a 22re. I put a rebuilt motor in it, pretty much new everything. Motor has over 1000 miles on it now. Did a good break in period and everything...
I just went into my friends mud swamp with the truck and I have a 3 inch body lift with no gap guards. I throw mud from my tires up into my engine bay and today I went in about a foot of water/mud. I got through the pit once with no problems but then i noticed after I let the truck sit and idle that it was idling very low. It idles about 500 rpms (normally 800-900) and sounded like it was leaking air from somewhere like i could hear a little hiss or something. When I jumped in the truck and started to drive it it has a huge hesitation/stutter and didn't get up to speed until like 3500 rpm which is where the 22re "turbo" kicked in... So I drove it around for a few miles and slowly the bogging got better after driving it for awhile. Then, returning back to the house, I let it sit for awhile maybe 20 minutes and jump in and start it up and it starts idling low again and does the same thing, bogs for awhile until i drive it a few miles...
I dont know where to start! could it simply be like an 02 sensor? maybe water got into the distributor? I have no idea what to think anymore? Could it be a vacuum leak somewhere? I had it running and sprayed ether near all gaskets and injectors and didn't get any sudden bursts of energy...
Can someone help me out on this one? thanks!

I have had the same thing when I washed my motor lasted about a day and a half, never really sure what got wet but I can say I'm a little more careful when I wash my rig. If it has been longer than that start all the normal things that are affected by water or moisture. Pull distributor cap check plugs etc.

Alright thanks I will do that. It seems to be that way because when I drive it it gets better. Maybe a bare wire somewhere? I put the motor in and the harness was in decent shape but not sure how the wires are inside the insulation and what not....

IDK if your engine is set like my 85 but i have compontents with there own little "air filters" and one is the Idle Air Control Valve or Auxillary Air. but no matter what it is called if that filter gets clogged with mud i could see problems with idle quality. just a shot
