Working my way up to 18 degrees, power gets better and smoother. Stopped advancing at 20 degrees with power still getting stronger.
How far can I (should I) advance? Does the 22R ping (detonate) in an obvious way??
Vacuum advance is to outer diaphragm and off the carburetor port.

i have a bone stock 87 4x4 22r with a weber 32/36 and i have mine set at 0 degrees (stock) ive tried advancing it to the suggested 15-18 degrees but i starting getting a slight knock and it seemed to run the same as it did at 0 degrees? it has good power throughout the band.... dunno if its related but it does drink some gas i average about 15 mpg with 31's.
id be interested in hearing others timing setup as well
Ok I'm coming in a little late s let's hope someone reads this iv got a 1980 20r with a weber 32 36 and my timing is a test 8 btdc iv read that with the weber I should advice the timing up to the 10 to 14 range and a total timing of 28 to 32 the timing plate on my motor only has a 8 and a 0 on it and dose not Have a bunch of degree marks on it so how do I no what range I'm in
