1992 4RUNNER/Surf front suspension

Is it possilbe to take out the current front suspension that has torsion bars and replace it with later model 4Runner's coil spring set up ? I believe the coil spring set up was introduced in 2003/4?

If yes, then can someone please post detailed pictures of the swap. I do not want to put leaf springs on the front.

Regards
Sajid

Anything can be done with enough fab and welding work.

Now is it a bolt in affair? Not even close. The two suspension setups are completely different.

Don't have solid front axles in 1992?

We switched to IFS in 1986, and they redesigned the system in 1996 to a coilover system. I was confused when you were asking about leafs at first, but if you have a SFA, it makes more sense.

If you have Torsion bar IFS, there isn't really anything to be gained by switching to a coilover system, other than a slightly smoother ride.

You asked if it was possible to do it. Sure, anything in the world is possible. But is it really plausible? No, not really.

I have torsion bar in the front. Problem is that the front bounces a lot, although i have ARB shocks and and Torsion bar.

I need the front end to be stiff, in fact very stiff as my application is rally racing. I am considering a dual shock set up.

The other option in addition to going with dual shock was to convert the front in to coil spring, but you say that not much will be gained by that.

So what are my other options?

The level 2 total chaos long travel kit converts the front end over to a coilover setup while also gaining you a ton of suspension travel. It's pricey though, and gonna cost an arm and a leg to get to Paki.

Alot of the desert racing guys over here PREFER the torsion bar setup. You can get stiffer torsion bars from Downey and probably ARB/OME.

The other option would be to dial some "crank" into the torsion bars which raise the preload, meaning it takes more force to actuate the suspension.

I don't see the need...these trucks are light enough that you shouldn't need the dampening of two shocks per wheel, unless your current shock is on its way out or is a cheapie.

Current shocks are ARB EMU.

Also am wondering how would she handle if I put coil over shocks from 1996 4Runner in a 1992 4Runner?
