1990 swap to 3.4L - is body lift needed?

Hey, this is my first post...so take it easy on me! I have been reading and searching for a while now and see conflicting results. I want to swap my 1990 pickups 3.0 (manual with a/c and no tach) for a 3.4 and wanted to know if I need a body lift to accomidate the new engine? Are all of the 3.4's the same in size regardless of year and vehicle they came from? Thanks for any info....

The intake is higher on the 3.4L. Adrian (Flygtenstein) did it without a BL, but he's SAS and he says there is NO clearance between the intake and the hood.

So, I think one is required, but 1" or so would probably do it.

From all I have read and seen a 1" body lift makes life much easier and in some cases keeps you from having to cut your hood.

I did cut a small hole in my hood (no lift). From what I have observed of the engine movement under acceleration and such, I would reccomend at least 1 1/2" of lift, to be sure that the front squarish corner of the intake plenum doesn't crease your hood from the inside. It will also help on the clearance over the hose connections on the throttle body.

It has been an education about just how much the engine really moves around, while you are driving!

Just sent a 1" lift kit to a 2nd gen owner in CO that has a 3.4 engine swap. He did it w/o the lift but decided to add a 1" lift afterwards for the additional room and to avoid cutting out more of the hood:

On my trucks 2 of them needed no lift. The clearance was very tight and you could dimple the hood with the intake. I used the old 3.0l rubber mounts. On my super charged truck there is a huge hole covered by a gehetto scoop, I plan on doing fiberglass and LT so I'll see what my options are later. A 1.5" lift would be needed for my older style supercharger.
