v6 or v8???

On the early model 4runners (03-04), which engine is the most reliable? I'm looking at both, but I'm not familiar with either so not sure which is better. What are the pros and cons of each? I like the extra torque on the v8 and the 5 speed tranny, but really don't care for full time 4wd (don't have a reason really, just never had a vehicle with that). I can't remember which is which, but doesn't one use a timing belt and the other a chain? Thanks!

V8 has a timing belt, but it is not an interference engine. IIRC, the 2003 V6 came with a 4-speed auto transmission. I also think the early V6 had issues with valve noise.

I like my V8. The V6 might get a couple more mpg. I don't know why you don't care for full time 4wd -- it works seamlessly.
