New Tacoma Pricing
So I have been getting excited about getting my new truck, thou its probally 4-6 months away still. But anyways I have been looking at prices of new and used. A freind of mine just picked up a 05 with 18K for 28,500, TRD doublecab 4wd 5spd auto with JBL stereo, pretty much the same truck I have been looking for. So I used that as a decent used price. Well I got to emailing some dealerships and one in Caldwell, ID will sell me the tacoma of my choice when I get home for 100 over invoice
Thats 100 less than my buddy paid for his used one.... Is this a common thing with toyota now? When I was shopping for one a few years ago invoice was never mentioned, it was only MSRP and the price may go up from there. Am I getting a super deal or has Toyota gone soft? Either way I cant argue with a new double cab, with all the good options TRD, JBL, tow package, VSC, 5spd auto... for 28,400... not shopping for used anymore ![]() ![]()

From what my Physics teacher told me if I remember correctly (he was previously a car salesman) was that theres actually a ~2-3K buffer between the sticker, MSRP, and what the dealer actually pays for it. Did you try multiple Toyota dealerships to get a well rounded price?

Thats entirely correct, they call it tissue cost-its the actual cost of the car. If the car cost 10k they mark it up to about 13-14k. Thats how they can haggle and make it seem like your getting a good deal.

Yes but invoice is still invoice, across the board. Invoice is what the dealership pays for the rig, MSRP is sticker price. The truck I am looking at has a sticker price of 31,855ish and invoice is 28,300ish. Everyother dealership I have looked at are firm on tacomas at MSRP. I did get a quote from a cotco dealership for 500-800 over invoice, which in it self is a killer deal, but 100 over invoice is something that the big 3 do to move rigs, toyota has never had to do this.
Now just because invoice is what the dealership pays for the rig doesnt mean they will only make 100 bucks on the sale, they usually get a bonus from toyota for each rig they sell.

You're right, they do get a bonus, but I still don't believe that a dealership would ever give a vehicle (especially a brand new one) away for less than 1K over what they pay for it.

I have bought 2 rigs, both ford, for 1000 under invoice (special) and 100 over invoice. They do do it, I just have never seen it on a toyota, and was wondering if anyone else had. I know a guy on here just bought his taco for MSRP.

There is also the dealer holdback. This is money the factory keeps until the vehicle is sold. So the dealership pays the invoice, but may get have a hold back that gets them more money after the sale. This way they can sell a vehicle near invoice and still make a profit. For example, I bought a new Subaru for $100 over invoice. I mentioned dealer holdback and they said "no way we cut into that."
I don't know if Toyota has a holdback provision or not. But it is a factor to be aware of. MadCityRich |

try buying through the internet sales dept. i contacted dealers online, invoice pricing only.... got replys and what i wanted.... actually put $1000- down and waited about 5 weeks. they couldn't deliver it the way i wanted, and had to throw in the toyo-guard, and tow package because that's all they could deliver from within the region (at no additional cost). also got the toyota tool box and window tint at dealer cost. again, all from the same initial sale in writing with a down payment. they hate returning money. they can sell at invoice pricing all day long (there's a document fee of about $400- that they all get, to cover overhead profit) and a high volume dealership gets additional money from the region. there's tons of profit built in.....

I can say that Tacoma demand is so high that there has never been factory to dealer cash back on the new gen Taco, and still isn't this month. There is an APR incentive of 4.9% going this month, but that's it. So, what we need to define are the numbers the dealer is using as 'invoice'. From there we can see how close to actual invoice they are. Toyota has 3% holdback plus finance reserve plus advertising baked into the invoice price. You won't get those unless you qualify and order through the fleet system. I'm not saying the dealer is pulling a fast one...yet. Have him email a copy of the invoice and post it here so we can tear it apart, I mean, analyze it further. And be sure it's an '07. There are a couple of tweaks that make Taco an even better off-road rig, like side and curtain airbag disable switch, and '06's are now subject to one year's depreciation even if new.

I wont be acquiring the rig until may, so it will probally be feb-mar I will start having them look for one. From what I gatherd from the dealership they currently have a 2000 off any tacoma in stock, from MSRP, but dont offer a military discount. The sales manager said they would offer me the 100 over invoice when I returned as a special military discount. If that dealership falls thru I can always special order my rig thru the costco dealership near my parents. The rig I will be getting is the 07 DC 4wd with Option D as per the toyota website. I beleive for 07 any vehicle equiped with VSC has a VSC off button. I havent heard of the side/curtian disable switch, is that standard with the side/curtain airbaga? JBLŽ AM/FM/CD with 6-disc changer, six speakers and subwoofer, amplifier and steering wheel audio controls (EJ)50 state emissions (FE)Driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags (GY)TRD Off-Road Package (OC)Daytime running lights (RL)Towing package (TO)VSC with DAC for 4x4 a/t (VE)

Oh, right, VSC disable is the other change. I read somewhere that the SCAB disable switch is standard with that option, available on DC's only. Looks like an aggressive price they're offering you on the hottest model, too. We can confirm their offer when ordering time gets closer. KBB and other pricing sites usually are pretty accurate, though sometimes you'll need to add advertising ($600-$900) to the invoice price. Prolly be a small price increase after January, $150 or so.

Yeah... I do feel fairly confident in "invoice" pricing. Its a published price. Of course you still have license/tax/title fees, etc. but those also happen above MSRP. From what I can tell its about a 3500 dollar discount
.. Lets see thats a ARB bumper, OME 885 springs, toyotec AAL, diff drop, demello sliders, and BFG A/T's

When I bought my wife her 4Runner Limited new in August 05 I got it for $100 or so under invoice, then the dealer screwed up at the delivery and I ended up getting an additional $300 off. It was at the biggest Toyota dealer in New England. It took some wheeling and dealing, but it happened.

i wish the toyota dealerships around here were like this. none are selling taco's for anything less then msrp, when they were first released, i was gonna put almost 15k down on one, which they were gonna sell to me for i think 25,500 plus tax title liscense, i applied for financing, which would have come to less then 175 a month, and they wouldnt finance me, they told me i didnt have a full time job. i now thank lowes, which wont make me fulltime even tho i work 36-40 hours a week, for me not being able to purchase something i had plenty of money for. but yea i went and checked one out the other day. 4x4, trd option 2, extended cab, --->27,500, ouch

It was definately a great deal from Ernie's son, lol. That price didn't include rebates, as we opted for the lower finance rate.
