Low tire pressure light

My wife's 04 4Runner has a light on the dash that indicates low tire pressure.Problem is it keeps coming on.1st time was about a week and a half ago I checked tires & they were down to 30psi(should be 32)so I added air went to dealer & they reset the computer. Now today it's on again & the pressure is good(between 31&32) so I'm off to the dealer again.Any Ideas as to why this keeps happening? The Runner only has 2900 miles on it we haven't even changed the oil for the first time & I've made 2 trips to the dealer.

That's the problem with dohickeys...More things to go wrong. You shouldn't be worried, it's still under warranty. Just take it to the dealer and tell them to fix the darn thing.

yea I know Dohickeys & all the bells & whistles are nice but your right more crap to go wrong. That's why I boght my Tacoma w/o all that extra BS.The problem with the dealer is it takes a while to get there. The wife can't drive a 5 speed so she can't drive my truck so I have to drop her off at work, just a pita.

Thanks! We like it also after all the years of the wife driving mini-vans she finally decided she wanted an SUV and said you always have good luck with your Toyota's I think I'll buy a 4Runner.(couldn't convince her to get the 4WD though).Of course she already got it stuck!Drove off the culvert at her sisters house & the back wheel came off the ground.

I had the same thing happen to my 04 runner. the dealer said that the sensor codes in the tires were not the same codes that were programmed into the computer so they had to take the tires off get the codes reprogram the computer with the right codes and the remount and balance all of the tires including the spare. all under warranty

Problem happened at 1500 miles and i am now at 5,000 and it has not happened since.

i did kinda find it weird that the pressure light did not go off till 1500 seems like it should have gone off sooner if there was a problem with the codes but oh well if it is fixed i don't care.

hope this helps

on a side note... what happens to those that have this feature and go offroading and deflate the tire to say 12-15psi? does the pesky light stay on during that time?!?! just wondering

Hope it all works out though... seems like a common problem of the 04's... btw, check out the other toyota forum (t4r.org) as I've read numerous times about this problem... just never affected me so i never read into it.. They might have some interesting knowledge that might help ya if what Eli tells ya don't work out.

Good luck!

That's hilarious A full page write-up on how to check your tire pressure I wonder what size the book is that they wrote on how to start and drive your vehicle to get over to the air pump?

BTW, "92 Toyota", it would probably be a good idea to get your oil changed right away as I've heard that there is alot of contaminants released during the initial 1000 miles, or so, due to engine break in etc. Just a suggestion.

Swede,
That is a good idea about the oil change I was waiting until 3000 as the dealer has a sticker on the window saying next service at 5000 miles.
Waskilly,
You were right it was the spare I double checked with a better gauge when the wife got home from work today, sure enough it was down to 25psi.
