Question Largest Tire to fit in spare tire bay under the rig

Hi, I have the 2004 4Runner Limited 4wd with XREAS.

what is the largest tire to fit under the spare tire area (the one under the rig)?
I know the oem 265/65R17 still has room around it, and I understand the 265/70R17 has been placed in without modification.

Will the 275/70R17 or the 285/70R17 fit without modification? Has anyone has already tried this - please let me know. If anyone has a few cycles and the spare equipment to try this - also please let me know.

Found a thread on another forum that answers this.

http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3927

pretty much limited to 265/70R17 for the BFG AT KO's
Unless I go to R18's and a different brand such as Cooper STT's which have 32.23's but that's pushing the spare tire limit.

Last option is deflate the spare tire some... or have a smaller spare tire and deflate down the bigger tires to match.

(not an option is storing spare tire on top or on the back or in the rig, per the wife)

I know that the 285 wont fit and that the 275 depending on the tire manufacture is a really tight fit.

Consider this. I have done this on other trucks, deflate the tire down low so it fits up in there, and carry a small portable compressor with you. If you need to use the tire, just pump it up and away you go.
