Found alarm delayed arm trick!

Some of you may remember one of my earlier posts pointing out the 4Runner LTD alarm ('04) did not have a delayed arm feature.

It is very inconvenient when you have to get an armload of things out and need both hands for the items, not messing around with the keys. Have to take items out of vehicle, set on ground, close doors, lock doors/arm alarm, then pick up stuff off floor and carry it in.

In my other vehicles, I can hit the lock/arm button with a door open and it will delay arm when the last door is closed.

Major oversight on Toyota's part.

BUT- I found the trick to making a delayed arm alarm.

When getting out, put the rear window down (doesn't matter if from the console or the remote). Open the door you need open (ie back door), then before getting your items out, put the key in the rear hatch and turn clockwise and hold until the window goes up all the way. Put your keys in your pocket so your hands are free.

Now the alarm will wait to arm until the doors are all closed

I did it by accident when getting my fishing equipment out of the back and then extra gear out of the back seat and noticed the alarm light flashing on the console.

I hope others find this useful to overcome an incredibly inconvenient problem.
