Brake Pedal Press - NOISE!!! vacuum?

Love my 07 4Runner Sport.
Just over 1000 miles now.

The brake pedal drives me crazy every time I push it, and I'm in traffic twice a day ... so no fun!

Took it into the service dept. They lubed it and said that is all they can do. I can't believe it is supposed to make the sound every push of the pedal.

Sounds like air expelling. Not a squeak but a squoosh sound. (make sense?)

Any ideas or fixes? Desperate.

Does the 07 have a vacuum booster, on my 01 4Runner the brake booster is electric and I can here the motor running when I push the pedal. Maybe that's what the noise is.

I have been reading the forums and have no idea if it has a vacuum. But it definately does not need any lube like the toyota service center said. It is not squeaking like something rubbing it sounds like air being released.

Thanks

Is the pedal vibrating/pulsating every few times you press it? I have that problem, and so far haven't been able to get the dealer to fix it. They say it's "normal" but I refuse to believe that the pedal is suppose to vibrate that hard.

Sorry guys, but it is normal. I believe it is the hydraulic brake booster pump. It comes on every few times you press the pedal. My 2003 4Runner has been doing it since new.

I checked my friends 2003 SR5 V6 and he does not have that problem. Mine occurs 100% of the time.

My 08 Urban Runner 4wd makes the same noise...it is really strange. I want to take it to the dealer to diagnose, but if it is 'normal', I don't want to waste my time. Thoughts?

My SR5 is BRAND NEW (200 km) and my brake pedal too makes soft, squishy sounds and pulses from time to time. I'm now glad to know this is normal.

It is normal. The ABS and brake booster are now one unit from 2008.

I agree with M1911. My 2003 Limited brakes make the same sound, although I can't say how frequently. It's the booster. This generation's brakes take a long time to get used to. I had a 1996 and drove it for 10 years before I bought the 03 with 54000 miles on it, and for the first 2 years I was convinced the brakes were faulty because of their mushy feeling as compared to the previous generation.

Not entirely unrelated to the brake pedal feel is the fact that my 'Runner feels like it has the tightest torque coverter in the world with a 600 rpm stall -- the idle creep, that is, the speed at which the truck moves at idle, is incredible. From how much force I need to hold the truck still with the brakes, it feels like a super fast choke idle, yet the tach reads 600 rpm.

The old truck barely budges at idle in Drive. On a hill, it'll roll backwards. Lots of cars I've had or driven have been like that. I'm thinking a tight converter is for good fuel economy, which is fine -- it just takes some time getting used to.
