4th Gen ARB bumper photos

EDIT - Someone on another forum pointed out that my lack of photography skills was making the ARB look larger than it really is. I took some different photos using his advice, and now present some much better pics. (BELOW)

Here are some photos of the production version of the ARB bull bar for the 4th Gen 4Runner.

It took me longer to install this bumper than it took me to install my Daystar lift by myself. The instructions ARB sent were good, but there were just lots of little details to work out.

You might notice a few things, including:

1. The fog lights are not the IPFs. Instead of paying over $300 for a set of IPF fog lights that won't do much, I decided to pay $55 for a set of Pilot fog lights that won't do much. The ARB bar has some sort of proprietary mounting system for the IPF's but it only took a small measure of redneck ingenuity to get the Pilots to fit okay.

2. The inner fender liners were trimmed a bit, but I also took a torch and heated the plastic to the point of bending easily, and then bent them inward so there wouldn't be any rough edges showing,

3. On the 2003-2005 models (but not 2006), the ARB has a gap between the bumper and the grille. ARB advises us to cut up the original plastic bumper, but I didn't have the desire to chop up a pristine OEM part. Instead, I took a piece of vinyl drip guard for gutters and made the gap filler for less than $4.

looks mean but kinda out of place. Like its for a different vehicle or something. I think it would look better if the hoops on top were kinda tilted back a little to match the body lines of the 4runner.

I know exactly what you mean. It's a bit too aggressive-looking for the rest of the vehicle.

I guess I'll have to make the rest of the vehicle more aggressive to match.

I would have to agree. It is a good starting point though. Get a lift and some tires, some sliders and that bumper should blend in nicely. Dfinitely looks functional.

How about a 2.5 inch Daystar lift and 32" tires? Oops, got those already.

You definitely don't want to see one of these things on a stock truck.... It would almost take 6" of lift and 35's to look just right.

It may look that way b/c it's black and the rest of the truck is white. Maybe painting it white will make it not stand out as much, like the few others on here that have matched the bumpers to the truck's color. I really like it and it does look meaner than stock but it could just be the color thing. My two cents...

I'm glad you said that. I was thinking the same thing. I already got an estimate to have it painted. They wanted about $300, so I figured I'd get see how the black looked first.

i think the color matched ARB would look very good on ur 4runner. Im really hopin ur rig isnt a trail only rig so i dont see why u wouldnt paint it. I could of sworn someone up here has a color matched ARB on their 3rd gen 4runner. Ask for some help from the photoshop gods and see what they can come up with.

the bumper is too shiny and new, thats the problem, go find a rock, and let your new shiny steel bumper scrape all over it, then it will look better

You should also look into powder-coating. The fact that it's already on the truck, your best bet would be painting it but I didn't want you to not think of the power-coat route. Post pics if you do it; I think you'll like it a lot...

Better photos now, no longer using wide angle lens. They old pics really made the bumper look a lot larger.

yep..stepping back and using a longer focal length wont get things all distorted. that said..i love the way it looks. im a bit biased though..but still. yeah the black on all white doesnt really work. i still say add more black to the truck. start by some bigger meats...33's would fill it out nicely.
