2009 Tacoma, Transmission Going Out at 12,xxx miles???
You heard it.. I recently purchased a 2009 Tacoma, 4.0 V6, 4x4, Automatic, from an older couple in Glenwood Springs, Colorado..
last week, i drove it from colorado to my home in Vegas.. on the freeway i had no issues.. once, while leaving a gas station about half way.. i came to a stop, and it downshifted so abruptly it felt like someone bumped into the back of the truck..
about 3 days after i got back to vegas, it started acting up bad.. it wouldn't go into overdrive 1/2 the time.. when i'd come close to stopping, like rolling through a 2-way stop, then give it gas.. it was as if i were in a manual, holding the clutch, flooring it, then dropping the clutch.
i drove it to the dealership, and on the way, it wouldn't go past 3rd... i'd stop, it'd go back to normal sometimes, or sometimes it would go past 4th..
After some trial and error, this is what seems is happening...
When i apply the throttle slowly, and approach freeway speeds, everything operates normally.. But, when i slow down to about 40, then try to slowly approach freeway speeds again, it won't go into overdrive.. if i let off the gas at 40-50, the rpms go down like they should, like the clutch is engaging, then when i give it gas, it revs out until about 4,000 rpms, where it catches the gear, and will then accellerate. (this is an Automatic transmission)
... the guy at the dealership said this..
"it has an aftermarket filter in it, and it was 2 quarts low on fluid.. we drained the old fluid and put new in, and it seems to be operating normally.. yadda yadda its cause the computer yadda yadda."
.. here is the problem.. Toyota auto trans dont have filters, they have screens on the pumps.. and since 05, or maybe 06, they claim the trans fluid is 100,000 miles worthy before needing change..
what do you guys think is the REAL problem? anyone experience the same??
