2007 tacoma home link
I have searched around and can't seem to find any info on a home link for the new tacoma. I don't know if it was a factory option or not. I am looking for info about replacing the overhead light/sunglass holder to a unit that has the garage door opener included. I was able to buy this for my 4th gen 4runner and it took minutes to install. A friend at work just got a taco, and could really use the home link. please don't flame or tell me to look it up, I just spent the last 10 minutes looking. Any help would be appreciated.

There are a lot of bells and whistles that Toyota left out of the Tacoma and Homelink is one of them. It's not an option, unfortunately, and Homelink is pretty useful.
You have a couple of choices, in either case eBay is your friend. You can get either a replacement rear view mirror with a built in Homelink unit for around $200 or so, or get a "raw" Homelink unit for $40 to $50 and figure a way to mount it yourself.
I went the latter route. I got an eBay $40 Homelink unit that was in a sun visor (it doesn'ty matter what vehicle they came from, they are all the same and programmable). I ripped it apart to get the guts (you can also buy the guts themselves). The three button unit is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, but maybe half as thick. I cut a hole in my headliner (I know, ouch) above the driver's side sun visor and mounted the Homelink there, inside the headliner with only the buttons exposed. I stole the 12 volts for it from the always-on 12 line going to the overhead console map lights. When the sun visor is folded against the headliner the Homelink is hidden. I just slip my hand between the visor and headliner to push the buttons.
I wasn't able to find a way to cleanly fit it into the overhead console, my first choice (I have the temp/compass setup), so I was forced to put it in the headliner. Hope this helps.
