2004 4Runner exhaust

Hello I just purchased my third 4 runner after owning 1991 and 1997 editions. This "new" model is a 2004 limited with only 100kms/60 miles. My first time owning the v8 version and I'm impressed so far. My question is what might be recommended or not recommended with regards to a muffler change as the truck was on the hoist and it was pointed out the the existing factory muffler was not going to last much longer. Would an after market muffler say a flow master affect the factory performance of the 4 or cause any emission test issues. If a performance muffler is ok can the best suited one be recommended. I would like the truck to sound a little meaner and possibly add a dual exhaust look too if that's possible ( however not a true dual conversion but a sort of single exhaust fake dual look). I believe the small muffler just before the tail pipe is a resonator and wondered once again if it's necessary re emissions or is it just for sound dampening. I live in Toronto Canada and our emission tests must be passed every two years in order to licence the vehicle. Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and any input on my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thx villain 22

Installing an aftermarket exhaust won't affect the performance of your rig. I recommend magnaflow. It has a nice deep sound that is not too loud.

thanks I went with a flow master muffler and ditched the resonator at the back. It cleaned up the look and sounds great.
