05 tacoma front suspension same as 4th gen 4runner?

i was wondering if the front suspension on the new tacoma is the same setup as the 04 4runner? the reason i ask, is i have been looking for a set of lift spindles since i purchased my runner. as far as i know there are none on the market, but if the tacoma is using the same suspension there should be soon. there is a whole lot larger market for a lifted tacoma than the soccer mom looking 4runner. (sorry to offend the 4th gen owners) i think this is the best way for me to lift my 4runner. i already extended the coilovers 1.5 inches which gave me a 3inch lift. now if i can get a spindle of 3 inches i will be happy and easily fit my desired 285's with no problems what so ever.

Nice generalization.

There was a topic on the 4th gen. / 05 Taco comparison around here lately. It mentioned that the front suspension is very similar.

also, didn't Lance answer your question awhile back?

http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=25323

The answer is yes, there are spacer lifts available -- Revtek, Daystar, Cornfed.

don't want a spacer lift. i already have as much lift as alignment and ball joints should go.

didn't mean to step on toes, please accept apology. i just didn't think the 4runner was a great looking stock vehicle. i do on the other hand think it is best bang for the buck suv on the current market. so again i didn't mean to hurt any ones feelings...

05 Taco/05 Runner Front Suspension...

I spoke with Downey and they said that the fronts are identical on the new Taco and Runners. Also, was at the 4WD convention in San Diego on sunday and pro comp, skyjacker and tuff country reps all said that 6 inch lifts for Tacos are in the works expected release late summer

True for now, spindles and such are on the way though

The convention was cool but it was domestic fullsize/jeep central...

6 Inch lift on a new Runner would look fantastic! 37's @ 8MPG? But it would look way cool! Wonder if they would have gears and a locker as well. Might as well go all the way.

Don't trash this rig so the spacer lift is just fine for me. But you know how it works you always want to got bigger, faster, cooler..........

you guys are forgetting something here.... what are you guys going to do to the rear? just because you get 100" up front doesn't mean you'll get 100" up in the rear (i'm being sarcastic btw.. sorry... ). This has been a problem for the previous gen 4runners as well, you can add a 6" lift up front but then you're kinda screwed on the rear as then you need a complete custom rear.

The reason why taco's can get 6" up front is because for the rear all you have to do is add leaves and call it a day (A much cheaper design built for pick ups). unfortunately, our rear suspension is a coil/shock which means someone better make some 6" coils or bigger or else you're gonna be riding nose high.

fyi, Eibach (we all know they're a top notch spring mfg) will not make samples of coils and if they do, they need an initial order of something like in the 10-100k... so I don't think we have that much demand so that's not happening. btw, if you want, give em a call, they're located in Corona, CA.

so if you really want that much lift up front, you better be prepared to unload lots of $ on custom rears cuz there is absolutely no company that will make any lift components for the rear that will be more than the 3" advertised. you can convert your rear's to leaves if you want but do expect to do a lot of r&d in the process (talk to SteveO as he did this to his 3rd gen w/ lots of R&D calculations). and if you guys are wondering if someone will make something, good luck as I've yet to see something even for the 3rd gen.

Yes I know it sux. But you know what, there are other alternatives... 3" coil lift, and a 1.5" Body lift. with this combo, you'll be able to fit 33's comfortably with no problems at all

Btw, more lift kits out there now:
coilovers, spacers, and now OME (only 3" of course) has something!!! (awaiting confirmation on part numbers for availability).

good luck

O another note, if you're lifting a lot, then make sure you upgrade your UCA's w/ something better. Total Chaos or Inland Truck are the only vendors right now. Expect something from Camburg and Donahoe in the next 6 - 12 months. I recommend TC's but that's just me.

Lance,

Just a thought, but have you considered Deaver springs ? I'm under the impression that they *might* work with us 4th Gen'rs.

I am in no way going back in time to run leaves... I like the plush ride I have right now Also if I ever wanted to Deaver springs that'll mean doing a lot of r&d to find the proper placement of where to make the mounts for the leaves. And with all the current projects I have on my plate, there's no way I'll have time to do that. phew..

Anyone that wants to go that route can do it O yeah, that means removing the spring mounts (base at the axle) and then swap it completely w/ u-bolts for the leaves. Then again, the easier fix would be to just find a busted 05 taco rear (w/ factory locker) and then use that! Then again that means changing out the rear brakes from drum to disc though but that's not a biggie right? ahh soo many ideas and soo many ways...

by the way, if somehow you were to get 6" up front, the closest you can get in the rear would be the 1.5" lift coils from Downey plus 2.5" spacers from Revtek which would give you 4".

i'm running the SAWs cranked up part way and there really isn't much down travel left, so if you get 6" up front, good luck with the ride quality and with keeping things from breaking.

and don't let any "company" attempt to talk you into buying their 6+" lift.

if you need that much lift, go about it as lance recommended - some combination of a suspension lift and body lift. Roger Brown makes body lifts for the 4th gen. - Lance is running a 1.5" body lift and I'm running a 1.25" body lift. It's a simple and effective way to get another inch or so without messing with the geometry of the suspension.

Hmmm.... Dunno if my wires got crossed somewhere in the not too distant past, but I could have sworn that Deaver also made coils...

I guess it could have just been a dream I had. Much along the same lines as a 4" lift.
