Talking Your thoughts 5VZ-FE Vs. 1UZ-FE

Okay so i have a 93 Toyota Pick up with the 3.0L, its running great, 23MPG, but its been abused in the past and is starting to show it.
So after a talk with some friends we are going to swap a bigger motor come spring time and I'm looking for something that is going to move my truck like nothing.
i know a fair bit about the 3.4L and very little about the 4.0L V8.
whats the difficulty of swapping in a 1UZ? what mods are needed to fit the 1UZ vs the 5VZ? Whats the cost difference?

I need to know what to start saving for XD

3.4 is a much easier swap as many things are the same.

4.0 or V8 swap everything is different.

would the Auto from the 3VZ-E work on the 1UZ? hows the harness swap with the 1UZ? I guess my biggest question is, do the benefits and power gain from a 1UZ swap out-weigh the extra work needed?

No. It's all different obviously.

IMO it's not worth the exponentially more amount of aggravation.

3.4 swap is easy with the right donor and knowing what you are doing.

No, it wouldn't.

You would still need to swap in EVERYTHING from the 1UZ donor vehicle. As in ALL the electronics(ECU, wiring, gauges, fuel pump, etc.). And then some(like the transmission and radiator). And have to fab a number of other things(like motor mounts, transmission crossmember, driveshafts, exhaust components, etc.). Plus buy an adapter to fit a transfer case to the Lexus transmission.

stay with the 3.4.
i used my gear drive TC and stock driveshafts.

it's hard enough but worth it imo...

200hp stock or 300hp with modded sc is plenty of power.

What i meant was since things like motor mounts and transmissions arent the same from the 22re to 5vz-fe like they are on the 3vze and 5vz. Would just going with a 1uz be not much more work?

I was going to do the 1UZ swap about 5 years ago, but after talking with a TON of folks at other forums as well, decided it was going to be too spendy & time consuming. Then when you're done, you STILL have to find a suitable cooling system to CRAM into what space is left. Can it be done? Yes. Is it worth it? Only you could answer that, but I had at least two folks who tried it advise me to drop the attempt.

yeah your probably right. Ive heard 22re to 5vz isnt real easy too though. But at least you could have the cooling and fuel system already there. Another thing is the r150f transmission will bolt right into the frame with the crossmember from the v6 truck. Really the motor mounts and wiring are the only custom thing with the 5vz i guess.

you also have room to work on the v6 under the hood.

plus double the HP of the 22re feels like plenty of power.
and if that's not enough you can sc, tune it, and triple the HP of the 4 banger.

Something sexy about a V8 hiding in a 1st gen though. But thats just me.....
The 3.4L is a great motor and has served me well in my 02' I can tell you the motor has been trd supercharged and urd 2.2/7th injected and has over 125k trouble free miles charged on stock internals.
The transmission is the weak link.
