WTF Now

So I am in the middle of a code P0235 on our 2002 highlander (bank 1 knock sensor) and now have a major failure on the 95 4Runner 3VZE. The rig was running fine but may have had a small back fire (not confirmed) and is now running crazy rich and sounds like the cams just got a lot bigger. It will idle when cold but not when warm unless you push the gas. Seems to still have decent power and good oil pressure. I suspect it's the 02 sensor, TPS, or VAFM.

Normaly this would not be a big deal but I am already $300 into the highlander and have not had any time to address the 4Runner as of yet.

Timing seems to be still correct. Power is still good under load.

It could be the o2 sensor. It could be any of several things. Sounds like it's idling when cold because it is in open loop mode until it warms up and then starts making fuel mix adjustments based on some kind of bad input to the ECM. I would think you would have a check engine light on. Do you? If so, test for codes and report back.

Found the issue.

VAFM door was stuck wide open even after being removed from the truck. I was able to free the door but i think it's about time for a replacement. On the positive side I did put it back on the truck and she is running again.

They are pretty expensive. If it's working then it's probably ok to run for now. You can get you a can of MAF spray cleaner at a parts house for a few bucks and give it a gentle cleaning. May just be some dust in the linkage that needs cleaned out.

I am running a 7MGE supra VAFM however the door was stuck wide open and I think it's just worn out.

As far as the hubs go I was told they came off a IFS truck when the owner did a SAS conversion on his 88.
Don't really know anything about the supra air flow meter, is it electronically the same?

I agree with Charchee, dust and dirt can hinder the flap. I personally haven't had that problem, but read it working in the past. If you move the door manually do you hear scraping/scratching type of noises or does it sound relatively smooth?
