won't start!!!!!!!!
i have an 86 pickup 22r. i have searched and found similar posts but i have an additional problem that i could not find. when i turn the key i get one click. about every 3 or 4 times i try to turn the key i blow a fuse then the truck will not click at all. i have cleaned the battery terminals, changed the starter and cleaned the connections on and to the starter. the fuse is in the fuse box on the passenger side wheel well. fuse number 6. a friend with an ohmmeter is coming over to night to check the starter relay. any help would be greatly appreciated. btw what is the normal removal and replace time for a starter on these trucks? it was b!*%h

i did a starter on my 88 over the weekend, was 22re though, it only took me about an hour start to finish, and anytime anyone says how long it takes to do something, it takes me twice as long, so it shouldnt be too bad for ya. access through pass side wheel well, two wires, one from starter relay, one from battery, and two bolts holding it to bellhousing. mine was doing exactly as u say. did you already replace the starter, and it is still doing it? did you get a rebuilt starter, or new one?

Starter solenoid?
I have had this problem on my chevrolet, I don't know if that happens a lot with 4 Runners, have you checked all the wires coming off the battery, to where they tun, and the lines that run off of those connections...Sounds like there's a short somewhere, or a grounding issue...
