Wiring harness swap

To start off, my truck is a DLX model. The only options I have are a clock, rear slider and auto transmission. Its pretty bare so I am currently collecting options to wire into my truck. My problem is I don't want to butcher up my harness, I want things to be like factory. My buddy and I were tossing around the idea of a full cab harness swap to correct any P/O hackjobs and making any options plug and play.

Basically I need to know if a harness from a fully loaded runner would swap into my pickup. Were all the runners wired for all options since it was more of a "luxury" vehicle? What kind of donor should I be looking at? Does it have to be a V6? Auto? Or are cab harnesses independent of engine and drivetrain? I want to avoid as much wire slpicing as possible.

Thanks for any help,
Jason

when i did my swap, (due to small fire ) the cab harness is seperate, except a few things, the headlights, turnsignals and corner lights are in the cab harness as well as the alt wiring, i wouldnt see why a 4 runner harness wouldnt swap in, unless it has the rest of the cab too? rear light/rear heat, exct....mine was very straight forward, unplug pull it back through the cab, but i also had an 86 base 4 cyl....good luck

What kind of options are you looking to add? The harness in your truck should have most of the connections for anything you want to add on. They used the same harness in the truck whether or not they had the option so you should have extra plugs and what not.

I know the 4runner harness is quite different as far as the rear of the truck goes.

Thanks for the help guys.

So far I have added the map lights. Those were easy. Sr5 seats required some fitting but they are good now. I have SR5 door panels with power windows, locks and mirrors to wire up. Also small things like the ashtray light, lighter and key ring light. Maybe even the glovebox light. I also want to install air conditioning but I know Toyota installed those plugs. My harness has no wiring for any of this. Power doors are what got me thinking that a swap would be easier.

Is there another section of harness that would plug in to get the rest of these options wired up? I did a few searches on here and didn't come up with anything worth while.

The 4runner harness will be different. Its wired for 4 doors and of course the rear window.

The 4runner/pickup relay box thingy is also different so..

grab a full harness out of a 93 pickup from alpies or something..

Hey jay. I didn't realize that the relay box was different. I just figured that it would be easiest to find a runner that was wired for all options. I guess I'll have to look at alpis then. I should at least be able to find one wired for power doors.

Yeah, a runner would be much easier and cheaper to get the harness from, but I think the pickup one is the way to go if you want it clean.

Thats gonna suck having to pull the entire dash!!

You could probably get an A/C Compressor and all that from a 4runner though.

Hey Scott, long time no see. Ya, I think everything to do with the AC will work from a runner except for the box under the dash. Not sure what it's called but I think it is too big to fit in a pickup.
