windshield wiper problem
I have a 91 4runner and the fuse for the wiper/rear window keeps blowing. If I replace the fuse and turn the switch to accessory mode they work but as soon as I start the vehicle the fuse blows. Please help me diagnose the problem I have the downloaded repair manuals and the chiltons manual but I cant seem to find the problem.

The wiper fuse only drives four things; two sets of wipers, and two sets of washer pumps. The easy way to deal with it would be to unplug all four. If the fuse still blows, the problem is in the switch (or associated wiring). Then plug your four items back in one at a time.
My guess is a stalled wiper motor, that hasn't yet "returned to home" and so is powered even with the switch off.

Windshield wiper problem

My bad it's the position on the ignition switch just before u turn the vehicle on. The wipers function correctly and even the rear window works but as son as I start the vehicle the fuse blows. I have followed the wiring to the connector and everything looks fine.

Nothing piggy backed onto this circuit adding to the draw of current.
Since both the front and rear wipers go through the 20amp wiper fuse something is drawing to much current.(Per the 1992 EWD)
You are replacing with a 20 amp fuse??
Could be any one of the wiper motors or washer motors are shorting out .
It could also be a motor with a bad bearing just drawing to much current.
Time to break out the meter and do some checking
As Scope suggested remove all the load see what happens

Yes I'm using a 20 amp fuse. I will try to remove the loads. I know where the washer pump connections are and the front wipers I think are on the left side of firewall but where do the connections for the rear wiper reside?
