Will bed from '89 Xtra Cab fit '88 Xtra Cab?

The title says it all. I have a lead on a nice bed from an '89 Xtra cab near me. The bed on my '88 Xtra cab is disintegrating as we speak. I realize that '88 and '89 are different body styles, but it looks like most of the changes are from the cab forward. From pictures they look about the same, but I can't tell for sure. Does anybody know, as far as mounting points, etc?

It may mount but will look funny. The 89 is wider by a few inches so it will stick out.

I just put a 3rd generation bed on mine...The 3 bolts on each side towards cab will line up on your 88 but the back 2 on each side won't...The tail light plug-ins are the same...plug and play...
The licences plate lights plugs are different from 2nd generation and instead of splicing the the quick release style of the new bed...i just marked holes from old licence plate light and screwed them on in same location...
The licence plate light wires are tight since bed is a little wider...Do not tighten any bolts till you use a straight edge and a tape measure on both sides and the distance between bed bulk head and back of cab...Once there the same on both sides (Bed will stick out around 3/8 of an inch on both sides of cab)...Tighten bolts...I used threaded shock stud bushing and thick washers on the bottom because the old rubber ones were shot and just tighten them up till they were squished...
And the fuel tube mounted on the 3rd generation bed is smaller than the 2nd so I just tighten them up tight...there are 2 hoses but they do work...Any questions let me know...Good luck...

John...

Why are his tail lights upside down?

I've seen a few personally around here since I'm sure 99.9% of all Wisconsin 2nd gen truck beds are completely rotted through by now. The body lines are a little different between the generations and they dont match the cab perfectly but it works.

I checked out the photo album that the picture Jay351 posted belongs to and it looks pretty good. You would have to have a sharp eye to notice that it doesn't match up perfectly. His kinda sticks out because the cab and bed are two different shades of black.

Ok new question! I found a mostly rust-free 2nd gen bed awhile back. I had to drive about 800 miles round trip to get it lol. So now I want to get a drop-in bedliner for it. I see a guy near here has one from a '91 6-foot bed. Mine is an '88 6-foot bed. Will it fit in mine?

I would do a spray-in liner, the drop-in ones eat the paint (leading to rust).
